Henderson Notches Double-Double in Home Opener

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Benedictine University Mesa women's basketball team dropped their conference opener against Embry-Riddle, 60-46, at home inside of the Coyote Center.

The Redhawks struggled with the pressure from the Eagle defense, turning the ball over 16 times which led to 14 points for Embry-Riddle. Offensively, the Redhawks shot 27 percent from the field and scored 26 points in the paint. BenU held a narrow advantage on the boards, out-rebounding ERAU, 39-38.

A native of Norman, Oklahoma, Nyah Henderson, logged her 1st career double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to go along with a steal. Henderson led the Redhawks in rebounds with 8 defensive and 5 offensive.

Elise Young added 16 points to the Redhawks offense and logged her fourth game scoring in double digits. Young also held her own in the paint logging 5 rebounds, 2 offensive and 3 defensive. 

The Redhawks battled back from a 17-9 deficit to have the lead, 27-21 going into halftime. The Eagles came out in the third quarter shutting down the Redhawks offense, out scoring BenU 17-5 and taking the lead. The Redhawks had most of their turnovers come in the final two quarters which made the difference for the game letting the Eagles come away with the win.

The Redhawks will travel to Northern California to face UC Merced and Simpson University before returning to Arizona to host SAGU - American Indian College on Tuesday, December 6th, at 5 p.m. inside the PHHacility.
