MESA, Ariz. - The Benedictine University Mesa women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to the University of Antelope Valley on Sunday afternoon, 85-64, inside the Coyote Center. The Redhawks are now 1-7 and 0-5 in Cal Pac play.

The Pioneers gained the early advantage in the first quarter thanks to an 8-0 run but couldn't hold onto the lead as the Redhawks slowly chipped away. Nyah Henderson scored seven points and led the Redhawks in the first stanza. BenU shot with more accuracy going 53.8% from the field while the Pioneers only shot for 38.9% from the field.

In the second stanza, both teams went back and forth throughout the period. Henderson continued to lead the Redhawks netting five points while Dyamond Butler-Worley added four points. The Pioneers managed to get a narrow five point lead going into halftime.

The third period went much like the second. UAV outscored the Redhawks 23-17 in the quarter to take a 63-52 advantage into the final frame.

The fourth period was all UAV, as the Pioneers were firing on all cylinders on both ends of the floor. The Pioneers shot 42% from the field but took 12 more shots than the Redhawks going 9-for-21 while the Redhawks went 5-for-9 (55.9%).

Nyah Henderson led the Redhawks with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. Dyamond Butler-Worley finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 assists. Theresa Gutierrez led the Redhawks with 6 assists while adding 6 rebounds. Raenesha Willis finished with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Redhawks hit 24-of-50 field goals (48%), 4-of-11 three-pointers (36.4%), 12-of-21 free throws (57%), and had 34 rebounds to the Pioneers 37 rebounds.  The Redhawks committed 31 turnovers and stole the ball 10 times.  The Pioneers made 35-of-84 shots (41.7%), 5-of-27 three-pointers (18.5%) and 10-of-17 free throws (58.8%) and committed 18 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks 19 times.
