Box Score 2 SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Benedictine University men's soccer team traveled to Santa Clarita California for two non-conference matches against Hope International and The Master's University. The Redhawks ended the trip going 0-1-1 with a scoreless tie against the Royals and a 3-2 loss against the Mustangs.
REDHAWKS – 0, ROYALS – 0
The Royals offense started the match on the attack tallying two shots on target within the first ten minutes. The Redhawks defense was settled in by the 20-minute mark where they forced the Royals to take wide and high shots. Donato Gil finished the first half with 4 saves from Hope's 10 shots.
The Royals offense once again came out ready to strike in the second half taking 19 shots to Benedictine's 1 shot. Donato Gil had 10 saves in the second bringing his total to 14 in the match. Both teams battled throughout the match but were unable to secure a game winner, with the game ending in a draw.
REDHAWKS – 2, MUSTANGS – 3
The Redhawks dropped a back-and-forth matchup against The Master's, falling 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Reese Field. The loss is the first for the Redhawks this season after two matches finishing in draws. Freshman Joao Alvarez and senior Pelaelo Mahloko scored for the Redhawks with Mahloko notching the game tying goal in the 80th minute. The Mustangs answered for the goal by scoring in the 87th minute to avoid ending the match in a draw.
For much the match, the Mustangs controlled possession and outshot the Redhawks 9-2 in the first half, and 7-2 in the second. However, freshman goalkeeper Aidan Klien made 4 outstanding saves from the mustangs 7 shots on goal. The Redhawks were unable to complete the comeback and ran out of time with the late goal from the Mustangs.
