Box Score 2 MESA, Ariz – The Benedictine University Mesa women's basketball team held a 9-point lead in the second quarter but suffered a 73-66 loss to Simpson University. Benedictine led 38-31 at the half. Two players reached double figures led by Elise Youn with 23 points. Benedictine shot 43 percent in the second and fourth quarters but were unable to hold off the Simpson offense from shooting 70 percent in the third. The Redhawks finished the game at 38 percent. Dyamond Butler-Worley added 10 points and three rebounds.
A pair of free throws late in the contest sent the Redhawks to a 75-71 defeat against UC Merced on Sunday afternoon despite another 20+ point performance from Elise Young. Benedictine held a 20-11 advantage on points off of turnovers but was held to 32.5 percent clip from the field. The contest featured 11 ties and five lead changes with BenU holding the largest lead of 15 points in the second quarter.
