Men's Soccer Splits Road Matches

ANGWIN, Calif. – The Benedictine University Mesa men's soccer team split their road matches against Cal Maritime and Pacific Union. The Redhawks defeated the Keelhaulers, 4-1, and then dropped their final match to the Pioneers, 2-1. The Redhawks are now 5-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in Cal Pac play.
 
The Redhawks got off to a strong start when Joao Alvarez opened the scoring in the 61st minute, giving Benedictine a 1-0 lead. Isaac Barreno took the spotlight with two crucial goals, first scoring in the 63rd minute and then again in the 88th minute. These goals put the Redhawks firmly in control of the match. Cal Maritime fought back and managed to pull one back in the 71st minute. Andrew Zimmerman added the final touch for Benedictine with a goal in the 88th minute, sealing their impressive 4-1 victory.
 
In the first half, Cal Maritime displayed their attacking intent by outshooting BenU, amassing a total of 7 shots compared to the Redhawks' 4. However, the second half saw a significant shift in momentum as the Redhawks took control of the game. They outshot the Keelhaulers by a margin of 17 to 6. BenU registered a total of 21 shots, with 10 of those shots finding the target. This efficiency played a crucial role in their 4-1 victory over Cal Maritime, highlighting their ability to convert scoring opportunities into goals.
 
The Redhawks finished their California trip against Pacific Union College. BenU outshot the Pioneers 8-to-5 in the first half, but in the second half, they were outshot 7-to-4. Pelaela Mahloko scored the Redhawks only goal in the 45th minute. Despite their efforts, they couldn't secure a victory and ultimately lost, 2-1.
