ENCINITAS, Calif. – The Benedictine University Mesa softball team took a doubleheader from the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds on Tuesday afternoon. The Redhawks took game one with a score of 17-12 and took game two with a score of 7-6 in extra innings. The Redhawks improve two 9-23 overall and 7-13 in Cal Pac play.
GAME ONE: BEN 17, USK 12
Amanda Clack kickstarted the Redhawks offense off with a leadoff homerun on a 2-1 count.
Stephany Aguirre followed that with a single to rightfield to score
Tia Craig. After two walks from USK to load the bases up for the Redhawks,
Shauncey Masaweistewa brought in two runs on a single to left. The Redhawks would go on to produce seven more runs in the first inning with nearly every batter seeing the box twice. The Redhawks would score again in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to total 17 runs on 17 hits.
Amanda Clack went 4-for-6 with four RBI, three runs, a homerun, two doubles, and a single.
Tia Craig went 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.
Stephany Aguirre went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Sabrina Ibsen and
Natasha Lawrence both finished with two hits in game one against USK.
GAME TWO: BEN 7, USK 6 (9 INNINGS)
Sabrina Ibsen powered the Redhawks offense going 2-for-4 in game two with five RBI, and one run scored.
Amanda Clack had another impressive game against USK with a triple and a double. The double in game two brings her season total to 9 and push her to third for the career doubles leader at BenU with 27 total.
Tia Craig went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored.
Autumn Giannini went 2-for-4 with one run scored while
Natasha Lawrence went 2-for-5 with one run scored.
UP NEXT
The Redhawks host Park-Gilbert for their last homestand of the season. The series will take place on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday April 23. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. with Sunday's doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.
