REDDING, Calif. – The Benedictine University Mesa softball team swept the opening doubleheader against the Simpson Red Hawks on Friday afternoon in Redding, Calif. The Redhawks are now one win away from their second playoff appearance. The Redhawks improve to 11-27 overall and 9-12 in Cal Pac play.
Stephany Aguirre led the Redhawks in the circle to a complete game shutout backed by a solid defense that made no errors in the game. Despite only having four hits in the game, the Redhawks capitalized on the errors made by Simpson to push across six runs.
The Redhawks offense came alive in the second game. BenU put up 19 hits to produce 15 runs.
Samantha Lawrence went 3-for-3 with five RBI and one run scored.
Tia Craig and
Shauncey Masaweistewa combined for five RBI and five hits.
Natasha Lawrence also played an important role in the team's offense by scoring three runs and going 2-for-4 against Simpson.
