Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

In a Battle for the Cal Pac #1 Spot, WBB Comes Out On Top

The Benedictine Mesa Women's Basketball team held on to the lead to defeat Park University- Gilbert Tuesday night. The two teams were tied for number one in the Cal Pac and with the win the BenU Redhawks claim the top spot. 
 
Benedictine took an early lead with Raenesha Willis sinking a 3-pointer. Although Park briefly tied the game at 3-3, BenU responded with an 8-point streak. Despite Park's efforts, the Redhawks finished the first quarter ahead, 15-7.
 
In the second quarter, Park narrowed the gap by three points, but BenU maintained their lead from the first quarter, heading into halftime with a score of 28-23.
 
After halftime, Benedictine extended their lead with a quick 4-point run. Park managed to score at the 5-minute mark, but never closed the gap to less than 6 points. The Redhawks held onto a 43-35 lead going into the final quarter.
 
Although Park closed in within 3 points around the 3-minute mark, a crucial jumper from Raenesha Willis kept them at bay. Park resorted to fouling in an attempt to regain possession, but the Redhawks converted their free throws, securing a 56-49 victory and maintaining their top position in the Cal Pac standings.
 
Key Players:
  • Raenesha Willis scored the team high of 17 points. Willis combined this will 2 rebounds to help contribute to the win. 
  • Maria Moore recorded a season high of 3 blocks and 2 assists. Moore also had 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. 
  • Alize Ruiz had an impressive 15 rebounds. Ruiz also had 9 points, 1 steal, and 1 block. 
 
Looking Ahead: The Redhawk Women are on the road to California to take on Antelope Valley this coming Thursday, February 1st at 4:30 PM MST.
