Women's Soccer Drops Match to Embry-Riddle

The Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks faced a challenging first half against Embry-Riddle (AZ), as the Eagles applied intense pressure from the start. Redhawks' goalkeeper, Josephine Cisneros, was tested early, making key saves, including one at 3:17. Benedictine had a chance to respond when Hannah Wood's shot at 0:53 was saved by Embry-Riddle's goalkeeper.

Despite strong defensive efforts, including two crucial saves by Julia Bodelasse, Embry-Riddle broke through in the 16th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. A second goal followed in the 21st minute, putting the Redhawks down 2-0. Offensive momentum was hard to come by for Benedictine, and Cisneros was kept busy with five saves before the break. The first half ended with the Redhawks trailing 2-0 but determined to fight back.

In the second half, Benedictine worked tirelessly to contain Embry-Riddle's relentless attack. Cisneros continued her strong performance with saves at 50:36 and 51:17, but Embry-Riddle found the back of the net again in the 56th minute, extending their lead to 3-0. Just two minutes later, the Eagles struck again, pushing the score to 4-0.

Despite multiple substitutions and efforts to regroup, the Redhawks struggled to generate offensive chances. Embry-Riddle added another goal at 62:31, making it 5-0, and further increased their lead with a goal at 68:58. Benedictine earned a corner kick in the 77th minute, but opportunities were limited. Defensive saves by Elena Rivera and solid effort from the Redhawks' backline prevented further damage, but Embry-Riddle sealed the match with a final goal at 83:38, ending the game 7-0.

Despite the tough loss, Cisneros made an impressive 11 saves, and the team fought hard throughout the match.
