The Benedictine Mesa Men's Volleyball team secured a victory against Simpson in four sets during their Senior Day and final home match, with set scores of 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-17.
To mark Senior Day, all seniors started the game, some taking on different positions. In the opening set, the Redhawks surged to a 10-5 lead, but Simpson narrowed the gap with a 4-point run. However, a crucial kill by
Damian Bilko helped Benedictine maintain their advantage. The pivotal moment came at 21-20 when BenU orchestrated a 4-point surge, featuring two blocks from
Daxton Tolman and
Trevor Weinert, along with a kill by Tolman, clinching the set 25-20.
The second set saw Simpson briefly taking the lead before the Redhawks responded with a 5-point run. Despite Simpson's efforts to level the score, Benedictine dominated, highlighted by a 7-point streak fueled by
Daxton Tolman's five consecutive aces, securing the set.
Simpson dominated the early stages of the third set with a 9-point run, but the Redhawks managed to trim the deficit with a 4-point streak. Although Benedictine narrowed the gap to 3 points, Simpson maintained their lead, winning the set 21-25.
In the fourth set, Simpson initially led, but the Redhawks swiftly equalized and surged ahead, maintaining control until the end. Benedictine secured victory with consecutive 3-point runs, featuring kills from
Dapre Rogers,
Damian Bilko, and
Trevor Medigovich, alongside a block by
Josh Beymer. During the game point, Benedictine's seniors were substituted out to rousing cheers, culminating in a heartwarming moment of recognition. The Redhawks clinched the set and the match with a final kill from
Tyler McBurney.
