The Benedictine Mesa Men's Golf Team secured 2nd place at the Park Gilbert Invitational, their season-opening tournament, hosted by Park Gilbert at the Las Colinas Golf Club.
Benedictine fielded two teams in the tournament. The "BenU A" team featured
Pedro Alvarez, Eddie Wikelmann,
Blake Contente,
Joaquin Salgado, and
Eric Klutke, while the "BenU B" team included
Charlie Gingras,
Miguel Villa,
Ignacio Garcia-Conde,
Joe Kelly, and
Chris Johnson.
Pedro Alvarez was the top finisher for the Redhawks, tying for fourth place with scores of 70, 68, and 69 across the three rounds, totaling 207. Eddie Wikelmann tied for sixth, swinging a 71 in round one and a 72 in round two.
Blake Contente tied for tenth, consistently hitting a 70 in all three rounds for a final score of 210.Â
Miguel Villa and
Joaquin Salgado both tied for 16th, with Villa posting scores of 75, 72, and 65 for a 212 total, while Salgado recorded 70, 71, and 71, also totaling 212.
Eric Klutke and
Ignacio Garcia-Conde tied for 29th, both scoring 220. Klutke's rounds were 73, 75, and 72, while Garcia-Conde's were 76, 70, and 74.
Joe Kelly tied for 38th, with scores of 73, 75, and 80, and
Chris Johnson finished 41st, hitting 77, 77, and 79.
The Redhawks return to action on Monday, September 30th, at the OUAZ Fall Invitational.
