The Benedictine Mesa women's volleyball team battled hard but came up short against The Master's University, falling in straight sets (19-25, 24-26, 8-25).
The Redhawks opened the first set with strong momentum, jumping out to a 5-1 lead behind back-to-back service aces from
Sophie Drollinger and a kill from
BelleRose Branconier.
Vivianna Galvan set the tone early, running a balanced offense that kept Benedictine in control through the opening points. However, The Master's responded with a 9-0 scoring run midway through the set, flipping the score and taking command. Despite a late push with kills from
Camille Collinsand
Railey Druxman, the Mustangs closed the set 25-19.
Set two saw the Redhawks fight back with grit. After trailing 5-0, Benedictine slowly chipped away thanks to a service ace from
Adina Ortiz and key kills from
Drollinger,
Druxman, and
Collins. Down 20-10, the Redhawks rallied with an incredible 12-4 run, fueled by strong serving from
Camille Collins, who delivered a clutch ace to tie the score at 24-24. However, The Master's held on to win the tight set, 26-24.
The third set saw The Master's take full control early, racing to a 6-0 lead before Benedictine could respond. The Redhawks found moments of success with kills from
Branconier,
Collins, and
Galvan, but the Mustangs' offense proved too strong as they secured the sweep with a 25-8 win.
