The Benedictine Mesa men's basketball team started strong and maintained composure down the stretch to earn a hard-fought win over Providence (MT) 74-67.

The Redhawks came out firing, jumping to a quick 7–0 lead behind baskets from Isaiah Howard, Luis Marin, and Kamron Robinson. Benedictine's defensive pressure forced several early turnovers, setting the tone for the half. Marin led the charge offensively, scoring on multiple drives to the basket, while the Redhawks' defense suffocated Providence, allowing just four points in the opening six minutes.

Midway through the first half, Benedictine continued to find success in transition. Marin's layup extended the lead to 13–4, prompting a Providence timeout. The Redhawks' ball movement and energy on the boards—especially from Howardand Malik Payton—kept momentum on their side.

Providence responded with a 9–0 run, fueled by Marcus Lawson and Quinn Swanson, cutting the deficit to 18–13. Swanson knocked down consecutive threes to bring the Argos within two at 20–18. Despite the surge, Benedictine countered with clutch plays on both ends—Robinson hit a midrange jumper, and Marin continued to attack inside, helping the Redhawks reclaim a slim lead.

The second half opened with both teams trading baskets. Providence tied it early at 34–34 after free throws from Brendan Redhead, but the Redhawks quickly answered as Robinson and Howard combined for key buckets to regain control. Howard's three-pointer and pair of free throws gave Benedictine a 44–41 advantage, highlighting his steady leadership.

Benedictine's defense remained sharp, forcing Providence into several turnovers midway through the half. Payton's energy on both ends, including a made layup and a defensive rebound that led to transition points, helped the Redhawks maintain their edge.

Despite multiple pushes from Providence, Benedictine's balanced scoring and clutch shot-making allowed them to hold the lead down the stretch.
