The Benedictine Mesa women's volleyball team battled through a grueling five-set match against Arizona Christian on Friday night but ultimately fell 3–2 (25–7, 31–29, 21–25, 25–20, 15–0) in the GSAC contest.
After a slow start in the opening set, the Redhawks regrouped and showed tremendous resilience the rest of the way. Arizona Christian came out strong in the first, dominating 25–7 behind efficient offense from Madison Van Wie and Zuri Reeser.
The second set turned into a thriller, with both sides trading momentum throughout. Benedictine found rhythm through
setter Vivianna Galvan, who spread the offense effectively.
Railey Druxman and
Sophie Drollinger each provided key kills, while
Camille Collins and
Janae Moore anchored the block. Despite a late push from Benedictine, Arizona Christian narrowly took the frame 31–29 to go up two sets to none.
Refusing to back down, the Redhawks stormed back in the third with strong all-around play. Galvan led the charge with a service ace and multiple assists as Benedictine surged to a 25–21 win. Druxman and Moore combined for several timely kills, and the defense tightened up to limit ACU's attack.
Benedictine carried that momentum into the fourth, racing ahead early and controlling the tempo. Behind Drollinger's serving and Druxman's attacking, the Redhawks secured a 25–20 victory to even the match at two sets apiece and force a decisive fifth.
However, Arizona Christian regained control in the final frame. The Firestorm capitalized on early errors from Benedictine and rode a strong service run to take a commanding 5–0 lead before closing the match at 15–11.
