The Benedictine Mesa Men's Golf Team placed 11th out of 13 teams at the Maverick Desert Classic, held from March 10-11.
Round 1:
Eric Klutke led the Redhawks with a stellar 68 (-4), firing a steady front-nine 36 before surging on the back nine with a 32 that featured multiple birdies. Pedro Alvarez followed with a solid 74 (+2), staying consistent with splits of 36 and 38. Charlie Gingras posted a 75 (+3), battling through a few setbacks on the back nine but keeping his round competitive. Miguel Villa showed improvement, carding a 76 (+4) with a strong finish on the inward stretch. Blake Contente started well but struggled late, finishing with an 80 (+8) after a difficult ninth hole. Klutke's dominant performance set the pace, while the rest of the field worked to stay within reach.
Round 2:
Blake Contente rebounded with the team's best performance of the day, shooting a 74 (+2). He was steady on the front nine with an even-par 36 before closing with a 38. Charlie Gingras followed with a 77 (+5), bouncing back from a tough ninth hole to finish strong on the back nine. Pedro Alvarez matched Gingras at +8, recording a 78 in a round that saw both birdies and costly mistakes. Eric Klutke, despite a challenging start, settled in and posted a 79 (+7). Miguel Villa faced a tough day, finishing with an 83 (+11) as a few difficult holes inflated his score. The demanding layout at Palm Valley tested every player, making each stroke critical.
