The Benedictine Mesa Baseball Team fell to Nelson Arizona, 14-4, on their Senior Night despite a strong late-game effort.
Nelson jumped out to an early lead, plating one run in the first inning before erupting for eight more in the second. The Redhawks found themselves in a deep hole after a string of extra-base hits and timely offense from the visitors. Benedictine got on the board in the bottom of the second when
Preston Vine-Close scored on a throwing error, but Nelson kept the pressure on, adding five more runs in the fourth—capitalizing on Redhawk errors to extend their lead to 14-1.
Despite the deficit, the Redhawks continued to battle. In the sixth inning,
Jude Sullivan provided a spark with a solo home run to left, followed by an RBI single from
Jose Romero that brought Vine-Close across the plate once again. Benedictine added one final run in the seventh when
Jacob Bauler knocked in
Alec Larson with a single to right field.
