The Benedictine University Mesa women's soccer team faced a challenging matchup on Thursday, ultimately falling 4–0 to Rocky Mountain College. Despite several strong defensive stops and offensive chances, the Redhawks were unable to convert, as Rocky Mountain controlled the scoring throughout both halves.
First Half:
Benedictine and Rocky Mountain both tested each other early, with shots from Morgan Hayes and Emma Lensing narrowly missing for the visitors. The Redhawks looked to build momentum through substitutions, bringing in
Diana Montoya,
Madison Rubio, and
Michaela Dennehy to bolster the attack and midfield.
Rocky Mountain struck first in the 18th minute when Emma Lensing scored off an assist from Georgia Dean, giving the visitors' a 1–0 lead. The Redhawks had opportunities to respond, including shots from
Brylee Rod and
Alicia Trewin, but Rocky Mountain's goalkeeper Matea Vernon was able to make key saves. Rocky Mountain added a second goal just before halftime, again from Emma Lensing, assisted by Georgia Dean, leaving Benedictine trailing 2–0 at the break.
Second Half:
The Redhawks returned with several substitutions, including
Rylee Hatcher and
Kyra De Boer, aiming to spark offensive opportunities. Benedictine's keeper
Thea Draganova made multiple stops, denying shots from Rocky Mountain's Grace Curnow and Ashley Donahue.
Despite their efforts, Rocky Mountain extended their lead in the 65th minute with Emma Lensing scoring her third goal of the match, assisted by Olivia Goddard. Shortly after, Morgan Hayes added the fourth goal for the home team off an assist from Georgia Dean. Benedictine continued to push forward with attempts from
Brylee Rod,
Alicia Trewin, and Paula Gonzalez Castr, but could not find the back of the net.
