The Benedictine University Mesa women's volleyball team battled hard but ultimately fell to OUAZ in three straight sets on Friday night. The Spirit controlled the tempo early and never looked back, claiming the match 25-22, 25-19, 25-22.
The opening set saw momentum shift back and forth, with both teams trading points in the early rallies. Benedictine's offense came alive behind kills from Sophie Drollinger and Railey Druxman, while setter Vivianna Galvan spread the ball effectively to keep the Spirit on their heels. Despite the push, OUAZ strung together a late run powered by kills from Lauren Wamsley and Jenna Sarff to close out the set 25-22.
OUAZ carried that momentum into the second frame, jumping out to a 6-3 lead before stretching it to 15-7. The Redhawks showed resilience, cutting into the gap with service aces from Haley Azzoz and strong swings from Drollinger and Druxman, but the Spirit's balanced attack proved too much, securing the 25-19 win.
The third set was the most competitive of the night, with Benedictine pushing OUAZ late before the Spirit pulled away. Kills from Camille Collins and Janae Moore helped the Redhawks keep pace, while Galvan and Drollinger connected for key points late. However, OUAZ found answers through Wamsley and Shayla Cotright, closing out the set 25-22 and sealing the sweep.
