Former Benedictine University Mesa standout Tanner Crawford is taking his basketball career overseas after signing his first professional contract with Associação Basquetebol Albicastrense, a competitive club in Portugal. The 6-foot-8" center concluded an outstanding collegiate career with the Redhawks and is now preparing to make his mark in European basketball.

Crawford, a Mesa, Arizona native and Mesa High School graduate, developed into one of the most formidable defenders in the Redhawks' lineup during his four years at Benedictine University Mesa. Known for his rim protection and high basketball IQ, Crawford was a consistent presence on both ends of the court. In 2025, he was named GSAC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in blocks and ranking near the top in rebounding and field goal percentage. 

Over his collegiate career, he set multiple program records, including career blocks and games played, and became a leader for his teammates. Such performance not only earned him accolades but also drew attention from professional scouts abroad. 

Signing with Associação Basquetebol Albicastrense marks an exciting next step. The Portuguese basketball scene has grown steadily, offering a platform for talented international players like Crawford to showcase their abilities, compete at a high level, and continue their development professionally.

While Albicastrense isn't as widely known as some larger Portuguese clubs, the opportunity provides Crawford with valuable experience in European play and a chance to be a key contributor early in his pro career. Portugal's basketball leagues are competitive and frequently scouted, making them strong launching points for American players pursuing long-term international careers.
