Biography

AJ Fernandez, a Mesa, Arizona native, is a junior catcher and infielder for the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks. Standing at 6-foot-1, Fernandez transferred from Mesa Community College, where he played during the 2022–2023 season. At Mesa Community College, he made 39 appearances, recording 37 hits, including nine doubles and two triples, and scoring 13 runs. In his first season with the Redhawks in 2025, Fernandez posted a .306 batting average over 20 games with 19 hits, 2 doubles, 1 triple, and 5 home runs, driving in 21 runs with a .613 slugging percentage. Defensively, he was steady behind the plate and in the field, finishing with 63 putouts, 10 assists, and a .986 fielding percentage.
