Jeff Stodgel joins the Benedictine coaching staff for the 2023-24 season with over 25 years of coaching experience. after most recently leading The Webb Schools baseball program for 12 seasons.
In his time at Webb, Stodgel led the team to 3 league titles, multiple state playoff appearances, and was named coach of the year 3 times. His players received numerous all-league honors with 4 being named the league MVP. Stodgel was instrumental in turning the baseball program around at Webb.
Prior to Webb, Stodgel coached for nationally ranked club and travel ball organizations that reached the championship of the Connie Mack World Series and won the Don Mattingly World Series. From those teams, Stodgel had the privilege to coach over 30 players who went on to play professional baseball, 6 of which were first round draft picks.
Stodgel started his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, Concordia University Irvine. As the assistant coach, he coached third base and worked with the infielders, catchers, and baserunners and assisted with recruiting. The Eagles saw 6 players advance to play in the minor leagues, independent leagues, and internationally. Two players from Stodgel’s tenure at CUI are currently in the athletic department’s Hall of Fame.
At his 3 years at Concordia, Stodgel was a middle infielder, catcher, and center fielder. At the conclusion of his career, his name could be found in the top 10 of most offensive categories. Stodgel still holds the school record for career stolen bases (73), and stolen bases in a game (5).
Following his time at Concordia, Stodgel went on to play professional baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Lafayette Bayou Bullfrogs (Texas-Louisiana League). As a Dodger, he continued to play multiple positions. In his final game, Stodgel played all nine positions. As a Bullfrog, he was the everyday second baseman and lead-off hitter, leading the league in stolen bases.
