Robert Esser

Robert Esser is in his fourth year at Benedictine University Mesa as an assistant coach for the women's volleyball program.

Esser began as an assistant from the early years of the program in 2025 and took a break before returning in 2022 where he helped take the team to their second NAIA National Tournament appearance.

Esser is from Gilbert, Arizona where he played for Highland HS from 2007-2010. He was named the 2010 AZ Republic Boys Player of the Year. He also was named the Mesa Tribune Player of the Year for 2010.

Upon graduation from Highland, Robert earned a scholarship to NAIA power Missouri Baptist. He was a four year starter for the Spartans and was named an NAIA All-American in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Esser was also named to the 2013 NAIA National All-Tournament Team and won setter of the year awards in the NAIA south conference in 2013 and 2014.

While he was in Missouri, Esser coached club for Missouri Thunder in 2012. Upon his return to Arizona in 2014, Robert went back to his roots and coached JV volleyball at Highland HS. He also was an assistant for Chandler-Gilbert Community College in 2014 and helped coach boys and girls teams for Molten Volleyball Club in the East Valley.

Esser played for the PVL Iowa Icemen at USAV adult nationals in 2014. He graduated from Missouri Baptist with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science.
