Benedictine University Mesa

Shayla Young, a native of Kaneohe, Hawaii, graduated from Castle High School, where she played varsity softball all four years and earned MVP honors during her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. She began her collegiate career at the University of Antelope Valley, where she made an immediate impact by breaking the school records for double plays and stolen bases as a freshman. In the 2024–25 academic year, Shayla joined Benedictine University to continue her athletic and academic journey. During the 2025 season, she appeared in 12 games (nine starts), batting .150 with three hits, one double, two RBIs, and one walk, posting a .182 on-base percentage and .200 slugging percentage. Defensively, she recorded 18 putouts and 18 assists with two errors, finishing with a .947 fielding percentage.
