Brian Hutchins is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Benedictine Mesa women's basketball program, establishing them as a contender in the California Pacific Conference during his first four years.
Over the past four seasons, Hutchins has guided his team to the California Pacific Conference Tournament twice, nearly winning it in the 2016-17 season. His program has posted a 62-43 overall record and a 32-15 record in conference play. During his tenure, he has guided players to three NAIA All-American awards (McKenzie Alton and Emily Moore 2x) and two Cal Pac Player of the Year honors (Emily Moore), 2 Cal Pac Newcomer of the Year (McKenzie Alton and Kaelin Shaffer) and seven other All-Cal Pac selections.
Hutchins came to BenU at Mesa from Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, Ariz., where he built the girls' basketball program from scratch in 2009. He quickly made the team a contender in AIA Division II, qualifying for the state tournament the past three seasons, including reaching the Elite Eight.
Hutchins has also been an assistant coach at various high schools in the East Valley, including Mountain View, Apache Junction and Queen Creek, and has also coached at the club level with Arizona Premier Basketball Academy.
Hutchins graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Adminstration from Arizona State University in 2001. In 2006 he earned a Masters degree in Counseling from Arizona State University and was a high school counselor for 10 years.
Hutchins and his wife, Sarah, are raising a 9-year old daughter, Symone, and a 5-year old daughter, Talia.
