Pat Mooney

Pat Mooney, hailing from Toledo, Ohio, has a distinguished career in both coaching and education. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Bowling Green State University in 1990 and later achieved a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University in 2004.

Pat's coaching career is extensive, particularly at the collegiate level. He served as the Head Indoor Coach at South Mountain Community College for 13 years, where he was named ACCAC Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2018. His teams achieved significant success, including a 5th place national finish in 2018 and five Academic National Championships. Additionally, Pat led the South Mountain Community College Beach Volleyball team as Head Coach for three years, guiding them to a 4th place national finish in 2018. He also spent two years as the Head Indoor Men’s Coach at the same institution. Before his tenure at South Mountain, Pat was the Head Indoor Coach at Phoenix College for 10 years, where he earned ACCAC Coach of the Year honors in 2014, and his teams finished 4th nationally in 1999, with four Academic National Championships under his leadership.

In high school coaching, Pat was the Head Boys Coach at Corona Del Sol for three years, becoming the program's first head coach and leading the team to state semifinal appearances in each of those years, a first in the school's history. He also served as the Head Girls Coach at Corona Del Sol for one year, guiding the team to the state semifinals.

Pat's influence extended to club sports as well, where he was the Head Coach for Arizona Juniors for 15 years, coaching various age groups to numerous top 10 national finishes. He also spent 13 years with Spiral Volleyball Academy, achieving a 5th place finish in the club’s inaugural year.

As a player, Pat competed for three years on the Bowling Green State University club volleyball team, earning All-Conference honors in 1989 and 1990 and serving as team captain in 1990.
