Sonia Jones enters her ninth year as head coach of the BenU Mesa women's volleyball program.
Jones has compiled a 137-85 record over her eight seasons in the NAIA. She has tallied three 20-win seasons, including a program-record 25 wins during the 2022 season. Jones has also been named Cal Pac Coach of the Year for taking the team to an impressive 18-2 conference record and a regular season title. Jones has led the team to two National Tournament appearances.
To this point, she has coached 14 players that received All-Cal Pac honors, four players that received AVCA All-Region honors, three Cal Pac Liberos of the Year (Courtney Pitts, Caitlan Sammons, and Haley Rivera) and eight Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.
Jones came to BenU Mesa from Seton Catholic Prep, where she was head coach from 2012-2014 and in three seasons combined for a 77-29 record, including a 27-3 league record. The team had three state tournament appearances including final four finishes in 2012 and 2014. Jones was named DIII Section V Coach of the Year in 2014.
She is also a head coach and site manager for the East Valley Juniors Volleyball Club, Gilbert location. Her 2015 18's team finished the regular season in 2nd place at the Far Western National Qualifier, American Division.
While coaching, Jones also serves as a faculty member at Mesa Community College since 2007 after serving seven years as a professional firefighter and paramedic.
Jones started her college volleyball career playing at Chaminade University before transferring to Grand Canyon University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Fitness and Wellness with a minor in Health Education.
Jones has a Master's Degree in Human Relations from Northern Arizona University and is currently pursuing a pursuing a PhD in Health & Human Performance from Concordia University Chicago.
