Redhawks Fall to OUAZ, 68-63

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Benedictine Mesa women's basketball program fell short of picking up their second win against OUAZ on Monday night losing 68-63. The loss puts the Redhawks at 1-1 overall.

The Redhawks were led by junior Elise Young who finished with 34 points, shooting 13-for-36 from the field, and making 6 out of her 8 free throws. Young also added 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Boo Zeller came away with 11 points and 2 rebounds, while going 4-for-10 from the field with two 3-point shots coming in clutch moments of the game. Nyah Henderson led the Redhawks in rebounds totaling 11, 6 defensive and 5 offensive rebounds.

Despite the great offensive showing in the first half for the Redhawks, the Spirit managed to rally and outscore BenU in the second to come away with the win. The Spirit outshot the Redhawks, 32.2% to 30% from the field, 33.3% to 21.4% from the three, and 67% to 47% from the free throw. The difference in the game ultimately came down to shots from the three, points off turnovers, and second chance points. The Spirit held a strong advantage in those three categories.

Benedictine Mesa women's basketball will face Arizona Christian, November 22 in Glendale, Ariz. The game will tip off at 6 p.m. MST. The Redhawks will start Cal Pac play on November 28th against in-state rival, Embry-Riddle, at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
