Box Score 3 MESA, Ariz. – The Benedictine University women's volleyball team swept last week's home stand and improved to the first seed in the Cal Pac standings. The Redhawks are now 22-5 overall and 16-2 in Cal Pac.

The Redhawks started the homestand facing off against the Pioneers of Pacific Union College on Thursday, Oct. 27th inside of Bell Bank Park. The match was a clean sweep (25-18,25-15,25-15) for the Redhawks.
Despite the Redhawks having one of their quieter offensive performances, the team managed to hit for a .366 clip overall. Kylie Bartel led the offense in total kills with 9 while Ashley Newman led the offense with a .667 hitting percentage (6-for-9). Annebelle Somoza tallied 20 assists while Bartel added 14. Mariah Montoya led the block with 3 total blocks. Haley Rivera led the defense with 14 digs.
Benedictine outhit the Pioneers, 44-to-28 in kills and only committed 10 errors to their 18. The Redhawks also had four service aces and only two reception errors. Both teams had 5 service errors.

The Redhawks carried their momentum into Friday's match against UC Merced, collecting their 12th sweep of the season. Kylie Bartel and Brianna Rivera led the offense with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Bartel hit for a .450 clip to lead the team in hitting percentage. Bartel also added 13 assists, 5 digs, and 1 block. Annabelle Somoza collected 20 assists to help direct the Redhawks offense.
Benedictine outhit the Bobcats, 38-to-30 in kills and .081-to-.190 in hitting percentage. Both teams committed double digit errors, but Merced committed more with 22 to the Redhawks 16 errors. The Redhawks had 5 service aces and had no reception errors in the match.
REDHAWKS – 3, RED HAWKS (SIMP) – 1

The Redhawks rolled into the match against Simpson carrying the excitement from their senior day ceremony and hit for an impressive .407 clip while blanking Simpson. Courtney Ely closed the first set going 5-for-5 for a perfect hitting percentage. The Redhawks totaled 13 kills while holding Simpson to just 4 and forcing 4 errors.
The second set went in favor of BenU, 25-15, but Simpson rallied back in the third. Simpson has no ttaken a set from the Redhawks since February 26,2021. Simpson took the set narrowly with a 27-25 win and outhit the Redhawks, 15-to-12 in kills and .188-to-.091 in hitting percentage.
The Redhawks answered back in the fourth to take the match, 3-1 and the set 25-16. Benedictine had 15 kills while Simpson had 7 kills. Benedictine committed more errors but maintained the lead through the final set.
Courtney Ely led the Redhawks hitting a season high, .714 clip with 10 kills. Ely also added 3 blocks to her impressive outing against Simpson. Laylah Daniel led the team in kills with 17 and added 11 digs to the defense. Haley Rivera led the backrow with 21 digs making it the 11th time this season she's had 20 or more in a match. Mariah Montoya also added to the defense with 4 blocks to the teams total of eleven.

The Redhawks enter the final week of regular season matches with our two in-state rivals, Embry-Riddle and Park University-Gilbert. The Redhawks will travel to Prescott, Ariz. on Nov. 4th and then host Park-Gilbert at Bell Bank Park on Nov. 5th.
