Redhawks Battle in Cal Pac Opener

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Redhawks fell to Embry-Riddle on Monday in a 72-68 nail-biter that featured nine lead changes and 13 ties. 

Despite holding the Eagles to 23-for-54 (.426) shooting, the Redhawks shot just 27-for-60 (.450) from the field for the game, including 7-for-19 (.368) from 3-point range. The Redhawks held a narrow advantage in most categories out rebounding the Eagles, 35-to-33, 16-to-15 in assists, 28-to-22 with points in the paint.

Michael Kirkland was the top scorer for the Redhawks tallying 25 points, 16 of which came in the first half, shooting 7-for-9 from the field with two from the three. Kirkland led the offense in the second half adding 9 points shooting 3-for-4 from the three point mark.

Damian Zivak and Tanner Crawford both had double digit figures in scoring with 11 and 10 points respectively. Zivak added 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and two steals. Crawford had 10 rebounds to notch his second double-double of the season.

Tre Carolina was an all around contributor for the Redhawks tallying 9 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.

It was a back-and-forth first half, with both teams heading into the half tied at 32. Zivak supplied the energy for the Redhawks in the first period, pulling down four boards and adding four points. Kirkland powered the offense for the Redhawks in the first half with 16 points.

The Eagles second half offense was jolted by the deep ball with 5 of the Eagle field goals coming from behind the arc. The Eagles shot 5-for-7 from the three point range in the second half while the Redhawks shot 4-for-11.
