Redhawks Break Cal Pac Record in Win over La Sierra

MESA, Ariz. – The Benedictine University men's basketball team got contributions throughout the lineup Friday afternoon en route to a dominant 91-79 victory over La Sierra University inside the Coyote Center.

The Redhawks dominated in nearly every facet of the game, capitalizing on opportunities when presented with them. The Redhawks outscored La Sierra by a 56-22 count in points in the paint and totaled 14 dunks. 

Of the 12 players to take the floor for the Redhawks, 8 scored and the wealth was spread throughout the squad. Jamaal Wright led all scorers in the game, dropping 29 points on 13-of-17 shooting adding 5 dunks. Wright also added six rebounds, one block and one steal in the contest.

Tre Carolina added 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists in the game. Michael Kirkland finished with 13 points, 3 assists, and 1 steal. On the glass, Tanner Crawford cleaned up the glass and secured 11 boards, 2 offensive and 9 on the defensive end. Crawford also added 12 points to secure his third double-double of the season. 

As a team, the Redhawks fired at a 70.4 percent clip, going 38-of-54 from the field, and breaking the Cal Pac record held at 68.2 percent by William Jessup in 2012. The Redhawks never trailed in the game, building a lead as large as 19 points in the second half. Benedictine's stifling defense showed up in the box score, as the Golden Eagles put up just 28 points in the first 20 minutes of action.

 

The Redhawks picked up momentum early in the game, shooting 72 percent from the field in the first half connecting on 18-of-25 shots. The Redhawks assisted on 15-of-18 and outrebounded La Sierra 20-to-11 in the first. 

La Sierra seemed to get it started on the offensive end in the second half, but the Redhawks shut down any inklings of a rally quickly. The Redhawks continued to dominate in the second half, connecting on 69 percent of their shots from the floor.
