Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Benedictine University Mesa men's basketball team suffered a tough loss against crosstown rival Ottawa University-Arizona. The Redhawks are now 3-8 overall and remain 1-4 in Cal Pac play.
The Redhawks were led by senior point guard Tre Carolina, who fired in 15 points. Carolina also led the Redhawks with 9 rebounds. Sophomore Tanner Crawford also was in double figures with 11. Michael Kirkland and Alphonse Alfred added 10 points each to the offense.
The game got off to a slow start offensively with both teams unable to score until two minutes in when OUAZ landed a layup. The Spirit pulled ahead ten minutes into the contest with a 9-point lead. The Redhawks continued to chip away at the lead, but OUAZ would answer for every BenU point keeping the lead through the half. The second half went much like the first with the Redhawks trailing through the game unable to close in on the Spirit.
The Redhawks hit 23-of-63 field goals (36.5%), 3-of-12 three-pointers (25%), 15-of-18 free throws (83.3%), and had 38 rebounds to the Spirits 39 rebounds. The Redhawks committed 24 turnovers and stole the ball 9 times. The Spirit made 34-of-70 shots (48.6%), 6-of-17 three-pointers (35.3%) and 13-of-18 free throws (72.2%) and committed 12 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks 17 times.
