Young's Double-Double Leads Redhawks to Win Over Park

MESA, Ariz. - Junior guard Elise Young posted 27 points and 11 rebounds to fuel the Redhawks to a 84-75 victory against rival Park University-Gilbert at Bell Bank Park on Saturday night.

The Las Vegas native went off in the second half, scoring 18 points going 5-for-11 shooting and grabbing 8 rebounds. Young also recorded a block and steal to round out her impressive second half performance. It was her first double-double of the season and marked the second time she's eclipsed the 20-point margin. Young finished the game shooting 8-for-17 from the field along with 5 assists.

Other than an early back and forth game, the Redhawks defense was stout all night long. The Redhawks held the Buccaneers to 43.2% shooting from the field and just 2-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Redhawks forced 24 turnovers thanks to 12 steals and two blocks.

Offensively, BenU found success attacking capitalizing on the turnovers, scoring 25 points off turnovers. The Redhawks also spread the ball effectively, assisting on 16 of its 31 baskets in the game. The Redhawks shot 43.7% from the field and 71% from the charity stripe.

Nyah Henderson just missed a double-double, tallying 14 points on 6-of-14 shooting, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the all-around effort. Raenesha Willis finished with 16 points, 3 rebounds, and two assists. Heavyn Jordan added 10 points and 4 rebounds.

The Redhawks will take a break from Cal Pac play to play in the Cactus Classic where they will play Rocky Mountain on December 20th and University of Montana-Western on December 22nd.
