The Benedictine university mesa women's volleyball team wrapped up the HIU Summer Slam Tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 win to Northwest University and a 3-0 win to Evergreen State College in the Darling Pavilion.

The Redhawks dropped a tough 4-set match to (RV) Vanguard in the opening match of the HIU Invite but fired back with 3 wins to finish 3-1. Senior Brianna Rivera put up 16 kills, while freshman Laylah Daniel posted a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs. Senior Haley Rivera led the defense with 21 digs and 4 aces.

The Redhawks took the deciding set from Hope International at the HIU Invite on Friday. Brianna Rivera led the offense with 24 kills and 10 digs for a double-double in a back-and-fourth match. Keelan Memory chipped in 6 kills hitting a .308 clip. Haley Rivera had another big game anchoring the defense with 24 digs.

Freshman Laylah Daniel carried the offense for the Redhawks with 19 kills hitting .366 in a 4-set win against Northwest. Courtney Ely added 6 kills to the team's total of 63. Isabel Ponce chipped in 12 digs, and Kylie Bartel was one dig shy of a triple double, notching 12 kills, 21 assists, and 9 digs.

The Redhawks finished the HIU invite by defeating Evergreen in straight sets. Setters Annabelle Somoza and Kylie Bartel dished 17 assists each. Laylah Daniel stayed hot and notched 15 kills, while Courtney Ely added 8 kills. The Redhawks hit .256 and controlled the serving game with 9 aces.

Up Next: The Redhawks will have their first home match against the University of Providence at Bell Bank Park on Friday September 2. The first serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
