Box Score MESA, Ariz – The Benedictine University Mesa women's basketball team got contributions throughout the lineup Sunday night en route to a dominant 101-48 victory over Pacific Union College inside the Coyote Center. The Redhawks improve to 6-9 overall and 3-5 in Cal Pac play.
After posting perhaps its best effort of the season in their previous match-up against Cal Maritme, Benedictine took more steps forward in the late week contest. The Redhawks dominated in nearly every facet of the game, capitalizing on opportunities when presented with them. The Redhawks outscored Pacific Union 20-to-2 in second chance points, and 39-to-13 on points from the bench.
Of the 13 players to take the floor for the Redhawks, 12 scored and the wealth was spread throughout the squad. Elise Young led all scorers in the game, dropping 21 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Young also added seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the contest.
On the glass, Nyah Hendersonl cleaned up the glass and secured seven boards, with four on defensive end. She was followed closely by Amber Ayon, who collected six rebounds.
The Redhawks defense dominated throughout the game and held the Pioneers to some long scoring droughts to push themselves to victory. For a span of four minutes in the first quarter, Pacific Union did not make a field goal. During that time, the Redhawks extended their lead from 8-2 to 18-2 points before the Pioneers hit two free throws.
The fourth quarter rolled along with the Redhawks continuing to build their lead, eventually building to the 50-point margin of victory that showed on the final scoreboard. The Redhawks outscored Pacific Union 20-to-8 in the fourth, outshooting the Pioneers 38 percent (7-of-18) to 27.3 percent (3-of-11).
The Redhawks hit 44-of-89 field goals (49.4%), 8-of-26 three-pointers (30.8%), 5-of-6 free throws (83.3%) and had 51 rebounds to the Pioneers 26 rebounds. The Redhawks committed 12 turnovers and stole the ball 13 times. The Pioneers made 18-of-50 shots (36%), 3-of-19 three-pointers (15.8%) and 9-of-10 free throws (90%). The Pioneers committed 31 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks seven times.
