Redhawks Stay Hot in Win Over Westcliff

MESA, Ariz. - Elise Young had another career night in the 91-81 victory over Westcliff University. Young went 11-for-17 from the field and landed four from beyond the arc to score 30 points in the match. The Redhawks improve to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in Cal Pac play.

The Redhawks opened the first quarter going on a 10-0 run before the Warriors would get on the board. The Redhawks ended the first stanza with a 7-point lead and shooting 64.7% from the field.

The Redhawks again started the second quarter firing on all cylinders and going on a 16-1 run before the Warriors could score again. The second stanza would end with the Redhawks holding the lead at 50-36 despite shooting 33.3% from the field.

The third quarter would see the Redhawks largest lead of the contest with 22 points and 4:37 left in the quarter. The Redhawks defense kept the Warriors to 36.4% from the field and unable to find the net from the three-point mark. Young had her best outing in the third scoring 11 points going 4-for-5 from the field and 1-for-2 from the three.

The Warriors would close the gap in the final minutes of the fourth quarter but were unable to pull off the comeback.

 

Elise Young led the offense with 30 points making it the second time in a Benedictine uniform that she's hit the 30-point mark in a game. Nyah Henderson added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Dyamond Butler-Worley had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Andriana Kasapi also made it into double-figures with 11 points while adding 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

 

The Redhawks hit 37-of-71 field goals (47.9%), 7-of-16 three-pointers (43.8%), 16-of-26 free throws (61.5%) and had 41 rebounds to the Warriors 30 rebounds.  The Redhawks committed 13 turnovers and stole the ball 7 times.  The Warriors made 29-of-56 shots (51.8%), 5-of-16 three-pointers (31.3%) and 18-of-24 free throws (75%). The Warriors committed 17 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks five times.
