Box Score 2 MESA, Ariz. – The Benedictine University Mesa men's basketball team rallied in the second half, but eventually fell to the Northern New Mexico College Eagles on Thursday afternoon, 82-75.
Sophomore guard Damian Zivak led the Redhawks with 19 points. Junior Jamaal Wright added 18, while freshman Cash Callaway had a season-high 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting along with two from behind the three-point mark.
After holding a twenty-point lead at halftime, the Redhawks were hot out of the gates in the second half, narrowing the Eagles lead to just seven points at the end of the second half despite outscoring the Eagles, 49-36.
The Redhawks hit 25-of-57 field goals (43.9%), 6-of-14 three-pointers (42.9%), 19-of-36 free throws (52.8%) and had 34 rebounds to the Eagles 43 rebounds. The Redhawks committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball 8 times. The Eagles made 29-of-63 shots (46%), 5-of-17 three-pointers (29.4%) and 19-of-27 free throws (70.4%). The Eagles committed 12 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks five times.
The second game of back-to-back matches against the Eagles went to Northern New Mexico, 81-60 on Friday afternoon.
Quincy Reece led the Redhawks with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Damian Zivak and Jamaal Wright both tallied 10 points. Wright added 7 rebounds with 4 defensive and 3 offensive rebounds.
The Redhawks were unable to hold off the Eagles from beyond the three-point mark allowing them go 5-for-11 and 15-for-38 from the field in the first half. The Redhawks went 11-for-31 from the field but only went 1-for-5 from the three.
The Redhawks hit 22-of-56 field goals (39.3%), 3-of-17 three-pointers (17.6%), 13-of-20 free throws (65%) and had 35 rebounds to the Eagles 42 rebounds. The Redhawks committed 19 turnovers and stole the ball 5 times. The Eagles made 28-of-67 shots (41.8%), 7-of-18 three-pointers (38.9%) and 18-of-24 free throws (75%). The Eagles committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks twelve times.

The redhawks return to Cal Pac play hosting Cal Maritime and Pacific Union on January 5th and January 8th at the Coyote Center. Tip off for the game against Cal maritime is set for 7 p.m. while the game against PUC is set for 2 p.m.
