Box Score 2 MESA, Ariz. – The No. 2 Benedictine University Mesa men's volleyball team opened the season with a four-set win over No. 4 Vanguard, 25-21,25-22,19-25,25-20. Four Redhawks finished with double digit kills led by Landon Fuller who totaled 16 kills.
Dapre Rogers, John Dawson, and Simon Joly helped the Redhawks to victory by adding 10 kills each. Dawson, Fuller, and Tyler Watts each added 2 block assists. Junior Daxton Tolman recorded a 43-assist game and had 3 kills to aid the offense. Simon Joly and Landon Fuller led the defense with 8 and 7 digs, respectively.
Vanguard was led by Kyle Anema and Will Anderson who both recorded 13 kills.
In the first set, the Redhawks had 13 kills on four hitting errors while Vanguard had 10 kills on three hitting errors as Benedictine won the first set 25-21.
In the second set, the Redhawks improved to 17 kills and had three hitting errors to hit a match high .519 clip. Vanguard had 15 kills with five hitting errors.
In the third set, the Redhawks recorded 9 kills on four hitting errors while Vanguard had 14 kills on four hitting errors. The Redhawks dropped the third set, 25-19, and were forced into four.
In the fourth and final set, the Redhawks had 15 kills and hit a .423 clip on four hitting errors. The Lions had 11 kills and hit a match low, .261 clip to drop the set, 25-20.
The Benedictine University Mesa men's volleyball team returned to action against Vanguard on Saturday afternoon. The Lions took control of the match winning the opening set 25-20. The second set was forced past the 25-point mark but went to the Lions, 28-26.
Benedictine hit .591 in the third set and took advantage of seven errors. Landon Fuller paced the offense with 13 kills in the contest. Daxton Tolman had 46 assists. John Dawson, Simon Joly, and Tyler Watts each recorded two block assists. Fuller also led the defense with 7 digs while Dapre Rogers added 6 digs.
