Redhawks Hold On to Defeat Cal Maritime, 75-67

MESA, Ariz. – The Redhawks never trailed in cruising to an 75-67 victory over Cal Maritime on Thursday night to pick up another Cal Pac win. The Redhawks are now 5-10 overall and 3-4 in Cal Pac play.

 

The Redhawks shot 43 percent on the day with three players landing in double figures and one setting a new season high. Michael Kirkland was the top scorer for BenU with 21 on the day, while Quincy Reece and Tre Carolina posted 15 and 13, respectively. Reece also notched another double-double adding 13 rebounds to his all-around performance against the Keelhaulers.

Defensively, the Redhawks held Cal Maritime to 31 percent shooting for the game, including 21 percent in the first half. The Keelhaulers were unable to land anything from 3-point range in the first half and finished shooting only 17 percent from beyond the arc.

Dalton Smith led the Redhawks with 4 blocks tying Tanner Crawford with most blocks in a game this season. The team totaled five blocks, 32 defensive rebounds, and five steals on the night.

After the Redhawks led by 11 points at halftime, the Keelhaulers came out keeping pace with the Redhawks scoring 43 points in the second. Despite both teams scoring 43 in the second half, the Redhawks never let the lead slip away and kept the Keelhaulers to shooting 43 percent from the field in the second.

The Redhawks hit 28-of-64 field goals (43.8%), 9-of-21 three-pointers (42.9%), 10-of-15 free throws (66.7%) and had 43 rebounds to the Keelhaulers 48 rebounds.  The Redhawks committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball 5 times.  The Keelhaulers made 22-of-69 shots (31.9%), 3-of-17 three-pointers (17.6%) and 20-of-30 free throws (66.7%). The Keelhaulers committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks seven times.
