Carolina Goes Over 1,000 in 81-70 Win Over PUC

MESA, Ariz. - A milestone was achieved at the Coyote Center on Sunday afternoon when Tre Carolina eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark. Coming into the game, Carolina needed 12 points to get to the career milestone and he reached it after making a layup to put the Redhawks up 68-67 with four minutes left in the second half.

The Redhawks went on to defeat the Pioneers, 81-70, to improve to 4-4 in Cal Pac and 6-10 overall.

 

Carolina is now the second Redhawk to reach the 1,000-point milestone. It has taken Carolina 85 games, 2,589 minutes, and 351 field goals to reach 1,000 and he still has 12 regular season games left in his senior year.

The Redhawks shot 50 percent on the day with four players landing in double figures. Jamaal Wright was the top scorer for BenU with 21 on the day, while Quincy Reece added 20 points.  Tre Carolina and Damian Zivak posted 15 and 13, respectively. Reece also notched another double-double adding 10 rebounds making it his fourth of the season and third since December 30th.

 

The Redhawks entered the half with a narrow lead, 35-34, shooting 43 percent from the field and 37 percent from the three-point mark. Defensively, the Redhawks held the Poioneers to 42 percent from the field and 26 percent from the three.

The second half went back-and-forth with 12 lead changes and four ties with the final lead change coming from Tre Carolina. The Redhawks went on to extend their lead to 11 points in the final minute of the game.

The Redhawks hit 33-of-66 field goals (50%), 4-of-12 three-pointers (33.3%), 11-of-20 free throws (55%) and had 40 rebounds to the Pioneers 38 rebounds.  The Redhawks committed 14 turnovers and stole the ball 10 times.  The Pioneers made 29-of-66 shots (43.9%), 7-of-27 three-pointers (25.9%) and 5-of-7 free throws (71.4%). The Pioneers committed 18 turnovers and stole the ball from the Redhawks eight times.
