HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Benedictine University Mesa women's volleyball team finished the Magic Island Classic going 3-0 with a win over the University of Providence (Mont.). The Redhawks won 17 sets in their first week before finally dropping one to Providence in the five-set match. The Redhawks defeated Providence, 3-2 (25-18,25-20,16-25,24-26,16-14), snapping the Argos six game win streak while extending their own to six games. The Redhawks are now 6-0 overall with two matches left before Cal Pac play.
 
The Redhawks opened the game against Providence just as they did the others at the Magic Island Classic by forcing errors on the other team making them hit negative. The Redhawks had a 13-to-6 advantage in kills in the first set and forced 8 errors out of the Argos.
 
The Redhawks never gave up much to the Argo offense as they kept them to around a .140 hitting percentage through four sets. The difference in the two sets the Redhawks lost were the errors the offense made against the Argos block. Providence held a 13-to-3 advantage on blocks in the third and fourth sets.
 
Despite the Argos getting on the board first in the fifth set, Benedictine maintained the lead throughout to take the 16-14 win. Both teams finished with 11 kills in the fifth but the Argos made two errors while the Redhawks played clean to hit for a .355 clip.
 
Brianna Rivera once again led the offense with 13 kills while adding 8 digs. Kylie Bartel had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Coutney Ely finished with 11 kills and five block assists. Amanda Klotz and Hailey White added 5 and 4 block assists, respectively. Karson Davis led the team with 24 assists. Hattie Patton had 30 digs and 11 assists against the Argos.
 
 
Brianna Rivera and Kylie Bartel we're both named to the All-Tournament team. Rivera and Bartel both finished with 39 kills and 27 digs. Rivera had a .365 hitting percentage through three matches and Bartel added six block assists.
