GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Benedictine University Mesa men's soccer team defeated Arizona Christian, 1-0, in a non-conference match Wednesday evening. The Redhawks improve to 4-4 overall and remain 2-2 in Cal Pac play.
Â
The Redhawks conceded an early shot in the first minute and fell short of grabbing the offensive momentum in the first half only taking one shot while Arizona Christian took seven.
Â
BenU started the second half on the attack, tallying a corner and two shots on target within the first 10 minutes of play. The Redhawks defense settled in holding the Firestorm at bay in the second half, allowing just five shots total with zero on target in the entire second frame.
Â
Mateo Torres put some flourish on BenU's first goal in the 77th minute, taking one touch off a pass from Gabriel Waters before getting the ball past the ACU goalkeeper.
Â
"The boys worked for each other and stuck to the game plan for 90 minutes against a very good ACU team," said head coach Tyler Hoffman.
