WBB Defeated By UC Merced, 54-67

The Benedictine Women's Basketball team faced a 54-67 defeat against UC Merced on Saturday night.
 
Alize Ruiz initiated BenU's scoring with a layup in the paint, but UC Merced seized the lead and maintained it despite the Redhawks' efforts. Although Merced extended the lead to 9 points, Xaria Culver narrowed the gap with a jumper, ending the quarter with the Redhawks trailing 12-18.
 
The second quarter proved challenging for Benedictine as they were outscored by 8 points by UC Merced. Despite attempts to reduce Merced's lead, the Redhawks struggled with missed shots, concluding the quarter trailing 20-34.
 
In the third quarter, BenU made efforts to cut UC Merced's lead through successful free throws and a jumper by Nyah Henderson. However, UC Merced responded, extending their lead and finishing the quarter up by 15.
 
During the fourth quarter, Merced increased their lead to 19 points at one point. Nonetheless, the Redhawks displayed resilience, exemplified by Maria Moore's last-minute steal and three-pointer, cutting the lead to 13. Despite their best efforts, BenU fell short, and Merced secured a 54-67 victory.
