The Benedictine Mesa Men's Volleyball team suffered a defeat against #2 The Master's on Thursday night in three sets, with final set scores of 25-27, 26-28, and 19-25.
In the first set, the Redhawks initially took a commanding lead at 9-3. However, The Master's staged a comeback with a 4-point run, narrowing the lead to 2 points. Another 4-point run from The Master's propelled them into the lead. Despite a valiant effort from Benedictine, including a 4-point run of their own featuring two kills from
Ben Turcinec, one from
Dapre Rogers, and a block by
Jackson Walsh and Turcinec, the Redhawks couldn't secure the set, ultimately losing 27-25.
The second set saw BenU seizing an early lead with a 4-point run fueled by two kills from
Dapre Rogers. Yet, The Master's fought back, resulting in a neck-and-neck battle for the lead. At 17-17, the Redhawks managed a 3-point run with contributions from Rogers and Trever Weinert, regaining the lead. However, despite multiple attempts to turn the tide, BenU succumbed 26-28 to The Master's.
In the third set, The Master's grabbed an early lead, but Benedictine leveled the score at 8-8 with a 4-point run featuring a kill by Walsh, an ace from Rogers, and contributions from Walsh and
Gehrig Tolman. Although The Master's reclaimed the lead with another 4-point run, followed by a 3-point surge, the Redhawks fought back tirelessly. Despite their efforts, The Master's emerged victorious, clinching the set 19-25 and consequently, the match.
