The Benedictine Mesa Men's Volleyball team executed a remarkable comeback to secure a victory against Westcliff in an exhilarating five-set match. Final set scores stood at 21-25, 25-23, 29-31, 25-21, and 15-13.
In the opening set, the Warriors initially surged ahead, but Benedictine swiftly countered with pivotal kills from
Dapre Rogers and
Jackson Walsh to seize the lead. Despite a spirited fightback, the Redhawks succumbed to a late surge from Westcliff, conceding the set 21-25.
The second set saw Benedictine take an early lead, only for Westcliff to draw level. A crucial 5-point run propelled the Redhawks ahead, with contributions from Rogers,
Josh Beymer, Walsh, and
Gehrig Tolman, securing a narrow 25-23 victory.
Although the Redhawks dominated early in the third set, Westcliff staged a comeback, ultimately edging out Benedictine in a fiercely contested set, 29-31.
Undeterred, Benedictine stormed back in the fourth set, establishing an early lead and maintaining control to clinch a 25-21 win and force a decisive fifth set.
In a tense finale, Westcliff gained an early advantage, but the Redhawks battled back, fueled by Rogers' record-breaking 34 kills. A crucial 5-point run, highlighted by stellar performances from Rogers,
Trevor Weinert, Beymer, and a game-winning kill from Beymer, sealed a dramatic 15-13 victory for Benedictine.
