The Benedictine Mesa Baseball team clinched a hard-fought victory over Arizona Christian on Tuesday, prevailing 8-6 after 12 intense innings.
In the opening inning, BenU got on the board as
Jack Fitzgerald singled to center field, bringing
Preston Vine-Close home. However, Arizona Christian quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half.Â
The game continued with both teams trading blows. In the 5th inning,
Ryan Curran's single brought
Jack Fitzgerald home, narrowing the gap. Yet, Arizona Christian countered, maintaining their lead.Â
The tide turned in the 6th inning when
Jose Romero's single allowed
Cameron Jowaiszas to score, leveling the playing field. Momentum swung back and forth, with Curran and Vine-Close delivering crucial hits in the 7th and 8th innings to put BenU ahead 6-3.Â
However, Arizona Christian fought back, tying the game in the 9th inning. As the game extended into extra innings,
Jose Romero's decisive home run in the 12th inning brought himself and Jowaiszas home, securing an 8-6 lead. The Redhawks' defense held firm in the bottom half, clinching the hard-earned victory.
