Women's Basketball Falls to The Master’s Despite Strong Performances

The Benedictine Mesa Women's Basketball Team fell to The Master's 83-71 in Thursday evening's matchup. Despite a spirited effort and standout performances, the Redhawks couldn't overcome The Master's early momentum and defensive depth.

1st Quarter:
The Master's set the tone early, opening with a 6-0 run before Benedictine Mesa's Nyah Henderson hit a jumper at 6:59 to put the Redhawks on the board. The Master's capitalized on turnovers and second-chance points. By the end of the period, The Master's led 30-12, showcasing efficiency on both ends of the court.

2nd Quarter:
Benedictine Mesa began to find their footing in the second quarter. Xaria Culver came off the bench with an early three-pointer, and Henderson added free throws and a jumper to close the gap. On the defensive end, Alize Ruiz worked hard on the boards, securing key rebounds to create additional scoring opportunities. However, The Master's responded with consistent offensive contributions, extending their lead to 48-28 by halftime.

3rd Quarter:
The Redhawks showed resilience coming out of halftime. Mya Johnson provided an offensive spark, hitting consecutive three-pointers and driving to the basket to score. Meanwhile, Ruiz continued to dominate on the boards, adding points and facilitating plays. Despite closing the gap to 54-40 at one point, Benedictine struggled to sustain their momentum as The Master's maintained their composure. The Master's end the quarter with a 64-51 lead.

4th Quarter:
The final quarter was a hard-fought battle, with the Redhawks refusing to back down. Johnson and Maria Moore combined for critical points, with Johnson hitting a late three-pointer that trimmed the deficit to 77-67. However, The Master's responded with clutch free throws and strong defensive plays to keep Benedictine at bay. Late baskets sealed the game for The Master's, resulting in an 83-71 victory.

The Redhawks will look to rebound on the road as they take on Embry-Riddle on Saturday, January 18th.
