Women's Basketball Secure Hard-Fought Victory Over Embry-Riddle, 70-61

The Benedictine Mesa Women's Basketball Team delivered a gritty performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Embry-Riddle 70-61.

1st Quarter:
Benedictine set the tone early with strong defense and efficient offense led by Alize Ruiz, who dominated the boards and opened the scoring after a key steal. Maria Moore added a three-pointer, and Mya Johnson connected from deep to give the Redhawks a 14-6 lead. Despite Embry-Riddle's response, including a three-pointer from Hannah Urbano, the Redhawks maintained control. With contributions from the bench and excellent ball movement, Benedictine ended the quarter leading 18-15.

2nd Quarter:
The Redhawks kept the pressure on in the second period, Olivia Arvallo drained a three-pointer early, and Naomi Elliot and Xaria Culver provided critical plays off the bench. Embry-Riddle managed to close the gap with key baskets from Micaela Hidalgo and Ella Schott, but Benedictine's balanced scoring, highlighted by a late three-pointer from Mya Johnson, ensured a 34-28 halftime advantage.

3rd Quarter:
The third quarter saw Benedictine withstand a strong push from Embry-Riddle. Ruiz and Arvallo led the offensive charge, while the defense, anchored by Alexis Emerson-Berry and Naomi Elliot, kept the Eagles at bay. A critical three-pointer from Johnson widened the lead, and the Redhawks carried a 47-38 advantage into the final period.

4th Quarter:
The final quarter was a battle, with Embry-Riddle trying to chip away at the lead. Benedictine responded with poise, as Maria Moore hit a crucial three-pointer and Nyah Henderson added timely baskets in the paint. Mya Johnson sealed the victory with clutch free throws and a late assist to Xaria Culver. The Redhawks' teamwork and depth proved decisive, earning them a well-deserved 70-61 win.
