The Benedictine Mesa men's soccer team delivered a commanding 5–1 win over Life Pacific on Thursday afternoon.
The Redhawks wasted no time setting the tone as
Gergo Varga opened the scoring in the 7th minute, finishing a setup from
Edwin Arias to make it 1–0. Life Pacific quickly responded with a goal from
Andrew Perez in the 9th minute, leveling the match at 1–1.
Benedictine regained control shortly after when Varga struck again in the 19th minute, this time assisted by
Niels Derks, giving the Redhawks a 2–1 advantage. The visiting side continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, and just before the break,
Felix Ehrlich found the back of the net off a pass from
Shiloh Perez, extending the lead to 3–1 at halftime.
In the second half, the Redhawks didn't slow down. Varga completed his hat trick in the 48th minute, heading home a cross from
Lampros Zervas to make it 4–1. Benedictine's offensive momentum continued late into the match, and in the 89th minute,
Tshepiso Ntuli added the final goal, assisted by
Ethan Lush, sealing the 5–1 victory.
The Redhawks controlled possession throughout the contest, producing numerous scoring opportunities and limiting Life Pacific's chances. Goalkeeper
Moritz Ae made several important saves before being subbed out late for
Rafael Machado, who closed out the match in net.
