Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Battle Hard in GSAC Championship Loss

The Benedictine Mesa Men's Soccer team faced off against La Sierra University in a physical and eventful GSAC Conference Championship, ultimately falling 2–0.

La Sierra came out strong, applying early pressure and creating several scoring opportunities within the first 15 minutes. Goalkeeper Moritz Ae stood tall between the posts, making key saves to keep the game scoreless.

The tone of the match was set quickly as both teams traded fouls in a highly physical opening half. Benedictine was forced to play a man down after a red card in the 16th minute but still managed to push forward, generating promising chances through Raegan RintoulGergo Varga, and Niels Derks. Despite their efforts, the teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0–0.

The second half continued with high intensity, but La Sierra managed to break through in the 62nd minute as they found the back of the net to give the Golden Eagles a 1–0 lead.

As the match wore on, frustration mounted for the Redhawks as a series of cards—eventually leaving them with just eight players on the field—made the uphill battle even steeper. Still, Ae continued to shine in goal, coming up with clutch saves to keep Benedictine's hopes alive.

La Sierra ultimately sealed the victory in the 89th minute with a goal, securing the 2–0 result.

Despite the adversity, unfavorable calls, and emotional intensity of the match, the Redhawks showed heart, resilience, and unity until the final whistle.

This marks the end of an incredible season for Benedictine Mesa—a year filled with growth, determination, and history-making moments. The Redhawks have proven themselves, and their accomplishments this season will not soon be forgotten.
