Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Jamestown

The Benedictine Mesa baseball team split its doubleheader with Jamestown, securing a 3-1 victory in Game 1 before falling 8-7 in a tightly contested Game 2.
 
Game 1: Redhawks Secure 3-1 Win
Benedictine Mesa took control early, striking in the first inning when Joseph Cosenza doubled to left field, bringing in Carlos Parra and Alec Larson for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Redhawks added another run in the third, as Jude Sullivan lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Alec Larson to score and extend the lead to 3-0.
 
Jamestown responded in the sixth with a Bachman RBI double to center field, cutting the deficit to 3-1, but Benedictine Mesa's pitching and defense held strong to seal the victory.
 
Game 2: Late Rally Lifts Jamestown Past Redhawks
Game 2 was a back-and-forth battle, with Jamestown striking first in the second inning on a Patton two-run double, making it 2-0.
 
Benedictine Mesa answered in the fourth when Ethan Graham drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Willie Tatum to make it 2-1. Moments later, Joseph Cosenza crushed a three-run home run, plating Preston Vine-Close, Samuel Ruchala, and Jacob Bauler, giving the Redhawks a 5-2 lead.
 
Jamestown responded in the bottom of the fourth with a Sabino RBI single and Patton sacrifice fly, closing the gap to 5-4.
 
In the fifth, Ruchala's two-run single extended Benedictine Mesa's lead to 7-4, but Jamestown chipped away with a sacrifice fly by Muizelaar to make it 7-5.
 
Jamestown tied the game in the sixth with Swennumso's RBI single and Burke's RBI hit, setting up a dramatic finish. In the seventh, Roebuck doubled to center, scoring Muizelaar to give Jamestown the 8-7 lead—a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
